Fantastic Breakfast and Lunch on Galveston Island ...
After many years working as professional chefs in the hotel and restaurant industry, Lisa and Harry Blair opened their own Sunflower Bakery in 1999. The original location at 1527 Church Street was built in 1890 and was one of Galveston's many "Corner Stores". The bakery became a favorite East End neighborhood gathering place. In 2003 The Blair’s purchased the historic Consumers Market at 1728 45th street. They opened it as "The Sunflower Café".
Running two busy eateries soon became very difficult and the Blair’s decided to move both the bakery and café into one larger location. In January 2006 "The Sunflower Bakery and Café" opened in the Columbus street market at 512 14th street converting another Historic building into a beautiful retail bakery and full service restaurant.
Here is what the patrons say...
"When friends stop by our house on Market Street, there is nothing better than running to the Sunflower and grabbing a box full of lemon squares, brownies (with cream cheese), and any other pastries that look good that day (and they all look good, every day)."
"This is a great little place. If you are a soup lover, its a must try. They have the most delicious soups and sandwiches. Its a great little homey place for a Sunday brunch, and makes a great date place. It's always quiet and has great atmosphere. Make sure you check out the bakery cases if you visit, the desserts and specialty breads are not to be missed."
